Freeriders know that there is no feeling quite like carving wide turns down a slope of untouched powder. Ramsau am Dachstein is known throughout Austria and beyond as an excellent destination for ski touring. With the right equipment and the help of a qualified mountain guide, even intermediate skiers can experience the thrill of off-piste skiing.

Freeride hotspot in the Dachstein region
Freeriders in search of action and adventure should head for a descent known as "Edelgrieß", where experienced skiers will find plenty of challenging terrain to set their pulse racing.
The 8 km descent in the southern section of the Dachstein Massif features rocks, 45° pitches, mighty limestone faces, gulleys and wonderfully soft snow in spring.
However, be warned! Strong legs and good overall fitness are required. Those who feel up to the challenge will experience a freeride adventure to remember.

Freeride Day Courses
Let the locals show you the best spots
Keen to try off-piste skiing but not sure how to go about it? Ramsau is the ideal place to take your first steps in the freeride scene! From early December until the end of March the local tourism board organises freeride day courses with qualified mountain and ski guides.
The courses include an introduction to the equipment, use of avalanche beacons, learning to read the weather and the snow, and tips on the right technique for skiing in deep snow. The day concludes with an easy run on the slopes or an off-piste descent.
